My husband and I have just returned from our traditionally delayed Valentine’s Day dinner. We don’t like going out on the actual day so always make sure to book a great restaurant for roughly a week later.
The atmosphere
I must say I was surprised at the setting of the restaurant, I was expecting a bit more pretentious and a bigger space. Set on the corner of 4th and 13th Street, it is rather unassuming with not too many tables and full length stacking glass doors which were opened bringing fresh air and a wonderful street-side vibe.
The decor is elegant and down to earth accompanied by good lighting and furnishings.
The service
I am extremely impressed at the level of attentiveness of the waiters, they were all friendly, helpful and efficient. One of my favourite things a waiter can do is tell me their favourite dish, I loved hearing their opinions and recommendations and they gave fantastic advice.
The menu
Unlike a traditional menu, most of the dishes are offered as a starter or main, all affordably priced. My hubby with his signature brand of having researched the reviews suggested that we order 5 starter portions so we could get to taste a variety of dishes. This was the best advice.
The food
Would you believe me if I told you that one of the dishes I tasted literally made my toes tingle? It’s true!
Every dish we tasted was a taste sensation. The thought and planning that has gone into each dish is mind-boggling. All the dishes were an eclectic mix of flavours and textures each complimenting the others. Fresh ingredients make the world of difference when it comes to fine dining and they really achieve excellence in this regard.
There was a bit of creamy and a some tangy, some zesty paired with a dab of decadence and everything in between. Truly magnificent meals.
The aftermath
I am so full from not being able to stop eating that I feel as though my eyes are bulging our of my face, but it was so worth it.
We will definitely be going back as we just couldn’t fit in a dessert and there were a few that looked very appetising.
